Mycelarium Mushrooms: Spore, Repeller, Predator & Tree

Four mushroom types named on Mycelarium's official upgrade tree, plus trailer text about 12 types. Official features, Demo observations, and unknowns.

Fact labels: Verified Observed in Demo Inferred Not announced What these mean

Mycelarium, the Steam game by PLAN KAPKAN, asks you to build different mushrooms on the surface while expanding a hyphae network below. Verified Specialized mutations are a marketed feature; the upgrade tree screenshot is the clearest name source for four fruiting-body types, while the official Demo trailer claims 12 types of mushrooms without naming the rest.

This guide follows the beginner loop assumption: you connect hyphae, spend resources, then place caps where the game allows. For surface threats, see the hedgehog guide. Deeper enzyme and parasitism nodes live on the fruiting bodies and enzymes page.

Spore Mushroom

Official info

Steam’s feature list says you can launch wind-carried spores to create distant new growth points. Verified On the official upgrade tree, Spore Mushroom sits on the Fruiting Bodies branch with children Spore Count, Spore Quality, and Spore Lightness (Spore Count also connects toward Spore Lightness in the layout). Verified In the screenshot, Spore Mushroom uses a gold ring and colored icon—visual unlocked styling, not a gameplay explanation. Verified

Seen in the Demo

No dedicated third-party Demo clip on this wiki documents Spore Mushroom placement, spore travel distance, or wind behavior. Not announced An official mid-run screenshot shows white particles rising above an orange surface mushroom, which might be spores, but PLAN KAPKAN does not label them in the image. Inferred

Still unknown

Spore Count, Spore Quality, and Spore Lightness effects, point costs, and any interaction with rain or wind direction are not announced. Not announced

Repeller Mushroom

Official info

Repeller Mushroom appears under Spore Mushroom with Repeller Charges and Repeller Regen Cost below it on the Fruiting Bodies branch. Verified The Demo 2.0 Steam news item unlocks Repeller to deal with the sneaky Hedgehog. Verified

Seen in the Demo

Public Demo footage used for this site (Gloworm, recorded before Demo 2.0) did not include Repeller. Observed in Demo Post-2.0 in-game behavior is not re-documented on this snapshot. Not announced

Still unknown

How charges work, what Regen Cost means in numbers, whether Repeller is mandatory to keep caps, and full-game balance are not announced. Not announced

Predator Mushroom

Official info

Predator Mushroom anchors the right side of Fruiting Bodies on the upgrade tree, with Tree Mushroom, Digestion Speed, and Predator Yield connected beneath it. Verified The Predator node icon is gray with a red 3 printed beside it in the screenshot; PLAN KAPKAN has not explained that digit. Verified

Seen in the Demo

Pre–Demo 2.0 footage showed the Predator Mushroom catching flies and bees to provide food. Observed in Demo That observation comes from third-party Demo video, not developer patch notes. Demo footage by Gloworm (YouTube).

Still unknown

Catch rate, digestion timing, Predator Yield scaling, and whether predators interact with hedgehogs are not announced. Not announced

Tree Mushroom

Official info

Tree Mushroom is a node under the Predator branch, with Tree Water Yield and Tree Drop Rate below it. Verified Separately, Steam features list Parasitize trees, and the Enzymes side of the tree includes a Parasitism subtree (Parasitism Speed, Parasitism Yield). Verified

Seen in the Demo

We have no Demo footage on this wiki showing Tree Mushroom placement or tree parasitism gameplay. Not announced

Still unknown

Whether Tree Mushroom is the same system as parasitizing trees, what drops trees provide, and how Tree Water Yield relates to underground water are not announced. Not announced A careful reading is that the names look related, but PLAN KAPKAN has not confirmed one mechanic. Inferred

How many mushroom types are there?

The official trailer displays the caption 12 TYPES OF MUSHROOMS. Verified The upgrade tree screenshot only labels Spore, Repeller, Predator, and Tree, plus the starting red-cap mushroom on the root node. Verified PLAN KAPKAN’s Demo store blurb says the Demo includes some plantable mushrooms—not a count. Verified

Eight or more types are therefore unknown by name; do not trust fan lists that invent extra caps. Not announced

Where can you build mushrooms?

Demo footage showed mushrooms only on near-surface tiles that stayed connected to the hyphae network. Observed in Demo Building deep underground with no surface link was not shown in that footage. Observed in Demo

Official UI hints include a mushroom icon button at the lower left of screenshots, which probably opens a build menu, but PLAN KAPKAN has not documented the button in prose. Inferred

A late-game official screenshot shows multiple mushroom shapes along the surface—brown morel-like caps and orange stacks—above a dense hyphae mat (HUD 17 food, 23192 cm, 556 water, 1 star). Verified That proves variety can exist on one run; it does not list which mutation types those sprites represent.

For food and water costs of placing caps, see resources and HUD numbers (Demo 20-food observation is version-sensitive). For all node names beyond mushrooms, keep the upgrade tree page open while you play the Demo.
